Germanwings to launch new base at Hanover

Germanwings will this summer open a new base at Hanover and launch 15 new routes. From May 2010 they will begin flights to Stuttgart, Bastia, Palma, Vienna, Barcelona, Heraklion, Moscow (Vnukovo), Zadar, Budapest, London (Stansted), Rome (Fiumicino), Zagreb, Dubrovnik, Milan (Malpensa) and Split.

They are expected to create around 70 new flights per week which will be operated by three aircraft.

Wizz Air to enter Slovakian market

Wizz Air to fly from Prague

Wizz Air have announced that they will begin flying from Prague. From 19 February 2009 they will fly from Prague to London (Luton), Milan (Orio al Serio), Brussels (Charleroi) and Rome (Fiumicino). From 25 July they will also add flights to Paris (Beauvais) and Eindhoven.

Transavia to open Copenhagen base

Transavia, the Dutch low-cost airline, have announced that they will open a base at Copenhagen, in place of the recent bankrupted Danish airline Sterling. From 08 December 2008 they will operate 10 routes from Copenhagen including flights to Malaga, Alicante, Arrecife, Las Palmas, Tenerife (Sur), Faro, Rome (Fiumicino), Nice, Salzburg and Innsbruck.

easyJet have put two new routes on sale which will operate from Rome (Fiumicino) – on 05 December 2008 they will launch flights from Rome (Fiumicino) to Bari and Palermo. They have also put a new route from Paris (Charles de Gaulle) to Barcelona on sale which will commence from 12 February 2009.

Central European low-cost airline Wizz Air will launch two new routes from their Poznan base this winter. From mid-December 2008 they are due to launch flights from Poznan to Cork and Rome (Fiumicino).

MyAir to fly to Foggia

Italian low-cost airline MyAir have announced that they will begin flying from Foggia, a city in the Puglia region of Italy. In doing so, they become the first low-cost airline to fly to Foggia. From October 2008 they will begin flying from Foggia to Milan (Malpensa), Palermo, Turin and Rome (Fiumicino).

Wizz Air to launch new Italian routes

Wizz Air have put three new routes on sale from Italy. These include flights from Bologna (Guglielmo Marconi) to Krakow and Warsaw and from Rome (Fiumicino) to Gdansk. They are due to begin flying on these routes from the end of October 2008.

Wizz Air to open new Romanian base at Timisoara

Wizz Air have announced that they will open their 10th base at Timisoara in Romania. They have put eight routes on sale to this new airport, including flights from London (Luton), Dortmund and Rome (Fiumicino) (all beginning 17 December 2008) and from Barcelona, Milan (Orio al Serio), Paris (Beauvais), Rome (Fiumicino), Valencia and Venice (Treviso) (from 11 March 2009). New Morocco and Rome flights for easyJet

easyJet will launch two new routes from Paris (Charles de Gaulle) to Morocco next winter. This will include flights from Paris (Charles de Gaulle) to Casablanca and Tangier which will begin from 27 October 2008. From 02 November they will also launch flights to Rome (Fiumicino) from both London (Gatwick) and Milan (Malpensa).

Blu-Express to operate summer route to Pantelleria

Italian low-cost airline Blu-express will operate a summer service between Rome (Fiumicino) and Pantelleria, starting 27 June 2008. They are scheduled to run twice per week on this route until the end of September.

MyAir to operate Rome to Turin flights

Italian budget airline MyAir is due to begin flying from their Rome (Fiumicino) base to Turin. They will begin operating flights on this route from 30 March 2008. They will also begin flying from Geneva to Brindisi from 04 June.

Wizz Air to fly to Cluj-Napoca

Wizz Air have announced that they will cease operating flights to Tirgu Mures in Transylvania, and will move these flights to Cluj-Napoca. On 13 November 2007, they will move flights to Barcelona, London (Luton), Budapest and Rome (Fiumicino). On 28 February 2008 they will launch a new route from Dortmund to Cluj-Napoca, replacing the previously announced new route to Tirgu Mures.

Wizz to move flights to Rome (Fiumicino)

Wizz Air will move their flights from Budapest, Tirgu Mures and Sofia from Rome (Ciampino) to Rome (Fiumicino) on 28 October 2007. This is due to new traffic limitations placed upon Rome (Ciampino) airport.

Sterling to expand at Malmo

Sterling will launch five new routes from Malmo next year, including flights to London (Gatwick), Alicante, Barcelona, Florence and Nice. These flights will begin from the end of March 2008.

Also from 30 March, Sterling will begin flying from Copenhagen to Murcia and Valencia, and from Stockholm (Arlanda) to Florence, Rome (Fiumicino) and Murcia.

Click4Sky – a new European virtual low-cost airline

Click4Sky is a new low-cost airline created by CSA Czech Airlines. Unlike most other low-cost airlines, Click4Sky does not operate any flights – instead it is being used as a marketing brand in order to sell unsold seats on existing CSA flights. In addition, the airline will sell all seats at a fixed price. Customers travelling with Click4Sky will experience exactly the same on-board service as those travelling with CSA.

They will sell tickets on flights to 36 European destinations from their Prague hub. Belle Air – the first Albanian low-cost airline

We have added routes operated by Belle Air, the first Albanian low-cost airline, to our route database. They began flying in November 2006

Belle Air operate flights from a single hub airport – the Albanian capital Tirana. 11 new routes from Barcelona for clickair

The recently launched Spanish low-cost airline, clickair, has launched an assault on the competition at Barcelona airport. Over the coming months they will launch 11 new routes, including flights to Verona (Villafranca), Venice (Marco Polo), Naples, Rome (Fiumicino), Pisa, Helsinki, Bucharest (Otopeni), Budapest, Vienna, Jerez and Warsaw.

They will also launch two new routes from Seville to London (Gatwick) and La Coruna.

Clickair flights go on sale

clickair, the new Spanish low-cost airline partially owned by Iberia – the national carrier of Spain, have put their first flights on sale. The flights, commencing 01 October 2006, include routes from Barcelona (their primary base) to Seville, Geneva, Zurich, and Lisbon. They will also fly from Seville to Paris (Orly). In November, they will launch flights from Valencia to Paris (Orly) and Rome (Fiumicino).

New SkyEurope routes including Bucharest and Turin

Sky Europe will launch a new route between their Prague base and Turin, flying twice per week from 26 December 2006. They will also begin flying to Bucharest (Baneasa) from Rome (Fiumicino), beginning 29 December. From 01 February 2007, Sky Europe will also begin flying to Bucharest (Baneasa) from their Budapest base.

These new Romanian routes from Sky Europe may be as a consequence of the recent announcement by Wizz Air to expand into Romania.

SmartWings schedule from Budapest confirmed

As previously announced, SmartWings will begin flying from Budapest as of the winter 2006/07 season. It has now been confirmed that they will begin flying these routes from 29 October 2006. They will launch routes to their Prague base, and also to Rome (Fiumicino), Milan (Orio al Serio) and Paris (Charles de Gaulle). In addition to the previously announced routes, they will also begin flying to Madrid.

Blu-express to fly to Libya

North Africa could become big business for European low-cost airlines. Following the recent trend for European low-cost airlines to launch routes to Morocco, Italian budget airline Blu-express will begin flying to Libya.

They are due to begin flying twice per week from their Rome (Fiumicino) base to Tripoli – the capital of Libya. They will fly twice per week on this new route.

AlpiEagles adds 2 routes to Sardinia

From June 2006, Italian low-cost airline AlpiEagles will begin flying between Verona (Villafranca) and Cagliari, and between Rome (Fiumicino) and Olbia. These routes are in addition to the currently timetabled flights to Sardinia during the summer season.

FlyGlobespan expands for summer 2006

FlyGlobespan have announced an additional 3 new routes for summer 2006. These include Edinburgh to Rome (Fiumicino) and Bournemouth, and from Glasgow to Ibiza. Flights to Bournemouth will operate daily, while the other routes will operate once per week.

helvetic ‘optimises’ route schedule

helvetic will add 3 new routes for the forthcoming summer 2006 season. From the end of March 2006, they will begin flying from their Zurich base to Ibiza, Olbia and Cagliari.

Prior to this, however, they will withdraw one of their aircraft from service and lay off 14 staff. They will also stop flying to Madrid, Prague and Rome.

Blu-express – a new Italian low-cost airline

Further information became available today about the new low-cost subsidiary airline being started by the Italian airline, Blue Panorama.

They will launch Blu-express, based at Rome (Fiumicino), with flights beginning from 21 November 2005. They have initially made details available about 6 routes. Blu-express will initially fly to Bari and Milan (Malpensa) from November, and will launch the remaining 4 routes to Grenoble, Munich, Vienna and Nice from 15 December.

It had originally been anticipated that this airline would be called Blue Express (there still appears to be some confusion on their official web site), and it is suspected that they changed this name very recently.

New Italian routes for Jet2

Jet2 will launch 2 new routes from Leeds (Bradford) next year to Rome (Fiumicino) and Pisa. Flights will begin on 07 March 2006 and 25 May respectively. This will bring the number of routes flown by Jet2 from Leeds (Bradford) to 18.

Madrid new base for Vueling

Vueling are to launch 3 new routes from Madrid in the next few months. They will launch daily flights to Rome (Fiumicino) on 15 November 2005 and to Brussels and Paris (Charles de Gaulle) on 21 December.

Budget airlines add capacity for Pope’s funeral

Extra capacity has been added on flights from Poland to Rome over the coming week, in order that citizens can attend the Pope’s funeral.

Centralwings have added capacity from Warsaw and Krakow to Rome (Ciampino). They also fly from Warsaw to Bologna, where an onward connection to Rome can be made by train.

Sky Europe have added capacity on their flights from Warsaw and Krakow to Rome (Fiumicino). Meanwhile Wizz Air have announced a temporary new route from Katowice to Rome (Fiumicino).

Vueling add 3 new routes

For the summer season, beginning on 27 March 2005, Vueling will launch an additional 4 new routes. These include Bilbao to Valencia and Rome (Fiumicino), and Ibiza to Valencia and Barcelona.

Vueling to begin flying to Italy

Vueling are due to begin a new route on 01 December 2004 from Barcelona to Rome (Fiumicino). This will be their first route to Italy, and demonstrates their plans for further expansion outside their home country, Spain.

Air Polonia Winter Season

For the Winter season 2004/05, it seems Air Polonia are moving some routes to cheaper airports. Flights from Warsaw will go to Paris (Beauvais), instead of Charles de Gaulles, and flights to Rome will go to Ciampino instead of Fiumicino.

In addition, Air Polonia will begin flying a new daily route between Warsaw and Stockholm (Skavsta) on 31 October 2004, as their winter season begins.

SkyEurope announces new base at Krakow

Central-European based SkyEurope have announced that their next new base will be Krakow. With this, SkyEurope‘s second base in Poland, they are adamant that expansion into Poland is the way to go, and they anticipate further expansion in the future.

They will begin flying from Krakow on 30 September 2004, initially to 5 destinations across Europe. The destinations include Amsterdam, Paris (Orly), London (Stansted), Milan (Orio Al Serio) and Rome (Fiumicino).

New airline added – JetGreen

A new Irish budget carrier, JetGreen has been added. Their unique selling point is ‘low fares but with all the frills’. Similar to the recently deceased duo, they also offer first class/business class services.

Their base is at Dublin. This month they have launched flights to Alicante and Malaga. From 08 June they will also begin flying to Faro, Rome (Fiumicino) and Nice.

New Volareweb routes to Poland

Volareweb have announced that they are to begin flying to Poland from June 2004. They will code-share their flights with Air Polonia. The routes include Warsaw to Milan (Malpensa), Venice and Rome (Fiumicino). In addition, they will fly from Rome (Fiumicino) to Krakow, adding Krakow to the budget airline map of Europe!

Today, Air Polonia announced a new route (their first to Italy), beginning 1 June, from their base in Warsaw to Rome (Fiumicino).
