Karlsruhe-Baden is to become Ryanair’s next hub airport from March 2012. They are to add routes from Karlsruhe-Baden to Arrecife, Faro, Las Palmas, Palma, Riga, Tenerife (Sur), Thessaloniki, Vilnius, Zadar and Malaga. They will base two aircraft at the airport and will operate a total of 20 routes.

Ryanair are due to make Seville their 44th base in Europe this winter. They have announced 10 new routes from Seville including flights to Eindhoven, Bari, Venice (Treviso), Zagreb, Palma, Valencia, Santiago de Compostela, Paris (Orly) and Marseille.

Transavia will begin flying from Nantes and will launch 7 routes to destinations in Morocco, Tunisia, Crete, Spain and Morocco. Germanwings will this summer open a new base at Hanover and launch 15 new routes. From May 2010 they will begin flights to Stuttgart, Bastia, Palma, Vienna, Barcelona, Heraklion, Moscow (Vnukovo), Zadar, Budapest, London (Stansted), Rome (Fiumicino), Zagreb, Dubrovnik, Milan (Malpensa) and Split.
They are expected to create around 70 new flights per week which will be operated by three aircraft.

easyJet have continued to launch new routes for 2010 with an announcement of 21 new routes. These include the following flights:
- Bristol to Dalaman, Bodrum and Heraklion
- Liverpool to Bodrum
- London (Stansted) to Bodrum, Dalaman, Split and Dubrovnik
- Amsterdam to Prague
- Geneva to Faro, Heraklion and Brindisi
- Paris (Charles de Gaulle) to Palma, Split, Prague, Malaga and Toulouse
- Rome (Fiumicino) to Malta and Nice
- Milan (Malpensa) to Mahon
- Paris (Orly) to Venice (Marco Polo)
This brings to 70 the total number of new routes that easyJet have announced to be launched in 2010.

Ryanair have put six new routes on sale. These include new flights from East Midlands to Palma and Reus (beginning July 2009), Alghero to Bari and Reus (from June) and Ibiza to Rome (Ciampino) (from June) and Bologna (Guglielmo Marconi) (from April).

Ryanair have announced that they will launch 7 new routes from Memmingen starting from the end of next month. They will launch flights from Memmingen to Girona, Dublin and London (Stansted) in April 2009 and flights to Alghero, Reus, Pisa and Alicante from June.

Vueling will launch six new routes to Ibiza this summer. From 12 June 2009 they will begin flying to Ibiza from Alicante, Bilbao, Seville, Valencia, Paris (Charles de Gaulle) and Milan (Malpensa). Ryanair have put two new routes on sale from their Stockholm (Skavsta) base, including flights to Zadar and Palma. Both routes begin from the end of March 2009. They will also launch flights from East Midlands to Ibiza at the same time.
Wizz Air continue their expansion at Budapest with the introduction of six summer routes. They will add summer flights from Budapest to Bourgas, Corfu, Heraklion, Rhodos, Varna and Palma. All routes will begin operating in early June 2009.

In April 2009 Norwegian Air Shuttle will begin flying three new routes from Stockholm (Arlanda). They will launch flights from Stockholm (Arlanda) to Palma, Chania and Faro. They are also due to launch a route between London (Gatwick) and Aalborg – replacing a route that was previously operated by the now-defunct Sterling.

Norwegian Air Shuttle will launch a large number of new routes from Copenhagen, replacing the collapsed airline Sterling, most beginning at the end of March 2009. In January 2008, Ryanair announced that they were making Birmingham their 25th regional base. They have just announced an additional nine new routes from Birmingham which will launch in November 2008. These include flights to Alicante, Fuerteventura, Palma, Murcia, Derry, Katowice, Kaunas, Krakow and Prague.

Volareweb have 15 new routes launching over the next few months from their Milan (Malpensa) base. These include flights launching in April 2008 to Athens, Brindisi, Krakow, Malaga, Malta, Lamezia-Terme, Paris (Orly), Valencia and Warsaw. From July they will also add flights to Heraklion, Ibiza, Olbia, Palma and Rhodos.

Ryanair will make Edinburgh their 27th base this year. They will add twice weekly flights from Edinburgh to Weeze from June 2008. In September, they will also launch flights to Billund, Berlin (Schoenefeld), Bournemouth, Bratislava, Krakow, Lodz, Poznan, Palma, Stockholm (Skavsta) and Wroclaw.

Ryanair today announced that they would make Bournemouth their 24th base. From April 2008 they will base one aircraft at Bournemouth that will be use to service five new routes. These new routes include flights to Malaga, Murcia, Palma, Nantes and Wroclaw.

Wizz Air have put eight new routes on sale from Budapest for the summer 2008 season. The flights, which begin during June and July, will include routes to Bourgas, Varna, Corfu, Rhodos, Heraklion, Oslo (Torp), Palma and Venice (Treviso). At the same time, they will also add a new route from Gdansk to Girona.

Ryanair have put four new routes on sale, including one from their Shannon base to Alicante, and three routes from Dublin. The new routes from Dublin include flights to Palma and Santander in Spain, and Zadar in Croatia.

easyJet have put two new routes on sale today from their London (Luton) and East Midlands bases. They will begin flying from London (Luton) to Hamburg (Fuhlsbuettel) from 05 November 2007, and from East Midlands to Palma from 08 February 2008. These flights are available to book now.

easyJet have put 12 new routes on sale, including their first routes to Gdansk. They will fly to Gdansk from Bristol, Edinburgh and London (Gatwick). They will also begin flying to Bucharest (Baneasa) from London (Gatwick) and Madrid, to Innsbruck from Bristol and London (Gatwick), from Madrid to Paris (Charles de Gaulle) and Palma, from Nice to Brussels (International), and from Milan (Malpensa) to Barcelona and Bari.

In addition to their recent announcement to make Weeze their 19th base, Ryanair will launch a further 12 routes over the coming months. These include flights from Liverpool, London (Stansted) and Pisa to Palma and Alicante, Rome (Ciampino) to Zaragoza (Spain), London (Stansted) to Zadar (Croatia), Girona to Maastricht, Dublin to Bremen and Alicante and Frankfurt (Hahn) to Palma.
Ryanair will increase their presence at Weeze airport from July 2007. They will make it their 19th European base and add four new routes including flights to Alghero, Palma, Alicante and Venice (Treviso).

easyJet continue to put more new routes on sale for flights over the coming months. They will begin flying between Madrid and Palma from 26 February 2007, and will begin flying from London (Gatwick) to La Rochelle from 14 July.

easyJet will expand their operation at Edinburgh by adding three new routes. They will begin flying to Madrid (from 25 February 2007), Milan (Malpensa) (from 21 May) and Palma (from 10 June). Separately, they have also announced that they will also begin flying between Geneva and Oporto from 29 June.

Germanwings have put flights on sale until the end of October 2007. This includes a number of new routes from their Stuttgart, Cologne-Bonn, Berlin (Schoenefeld) and Hamburg (Fuhlsbuettel) bases. Flights begin from the end of March.
From Cologne-Bonn they will begin flying to Alghero (Sardinia), Zadar (Croatia), Sarajevo (Bosnia and Herzegovina), Bucharest (Baneasa) (Romania), Sofia (Bulgaria), Bourgas (Bulgaria), Varna (Bulgaria) and Kavala. From Stuttgart they will begin flying to Bastia (Corsica), from Hamburg (Fuhlsbuettel) to Palma and from Berlin (Schoenefeld) to Bourgas (Bulgaria), Verona (Villafranca) (Bulgaria) and Balaton (Hungary).

Jet2 continue their expansion at Belfast (International) with the announcement that they will launch five additional new routes there next year. During March and April 2007 they will begin new routes to Toulouse, Ibiza, Palma, Malaga and Milan (Orio al Serio). These flights are scheduled to operate for the summer season.

FlyGlobespan has announced the launch of four new routes from Durham Tees Valley and six from Aberdeen for the summer 2007 season. easyJet have announced that they will launch 4 new routes from Glasgow (International). This follows an announcement that they would cease operating their route from Glasgow (International) to Amsterdam at the end of March.
Further expansion is expected for easyJet at both Glasgow (International) and Edinburgh over the coming months. This is as a result of a new deal to reduce airport charges at these airports for easyJet.

centralwings have announced an additional 21 routes for the upcoming summer 2006 season. They intend to fly most of these routes just once or twice per week. Flights include Warsaw to Lamezia-Terme, Malaga, Corfu, Faro, Heraklion, Chania, Girona, Catania, Rhodos, Palma, Palermo, Thessaloniki and Malta. They will also add routes from Krakow to Heraklion, Malaga and Rhodos.

MyAir will launch summer routes to Spain from 21 July 2006. They will fly from Milan (Orio al Serio) to Palma and Ibiza, and also from Venice (Marco Polo) to Ibiza. These flights will be operated until early September.

easyJet have announced an expansion for 2006, and will add 14 new routes to their European route network over the coming months. This includes expansion from Lisbon to London (Luton), Milan (Malpensa) and Paris (Charles De Gaulle), from Liverpool to Faro, Krakow, Menorca and Marseille, from Malaga to Dortmund and Berlin (Schoenefeld), from Milan (Malpensa) to Naples, Palermo, Olbia and Ibiza and from Geneva to Palma (Mallorca).
These flights will go on sale from Friday 06 January.

What is surprising about this announcement is that 5 of these routes are already operated by rival Scandinavian budget airline, Sterling.

Be aware that we change our schedules regularly in order to adapt to the needs of our clients and to meet the current demand for departures.
This could be taken as an indication that they do not intend to launch all 12 of these routes, and will instead take bookings and decide which routes to axe (if demand is insufficient), maybe before they have even started. This was certainly a strategy employed by other emerging European low-cost airlines – for example Wizz Air.

Following our recent discussion as to whether Jet2 are likely to expand further at Newcastle, they have announced the launch of 3 routes from Blackpool. From 04 November 2005, Jet2 will operate a flight 4-times per week from Blackpool to Belfast (International). They will begin routes to Palma (Mallorca) and Murcia on 06 April 2006.

Thomsonfly has announced that they will begin selling “frequent”, “low-cost” flights from 11 UK regional airports from summer 2006. This will no doubt see capacity from the parent group, Thomson, being utilised for Thomsonfly branded flying.
Thomsonfly already operate flights from Coventry, Doncaster and Bournemouth, but from May 2006 will begin operating flights from Cardiff, Glasgow, London (Luton and Gatwick), Birmingham (International), East Midlands, Manchester and Newcastle. Destinations announced so far include Malaga, Alicante, Ibiza and Palma (Mallorca).

Following the arrival of Ryanair at Santiago de Compostela, and the recent news of their expansion there – we have learnt that Air Berlin will also begin flying to Santiago de Compostela from 01 November.
They will operate a daily route from their base at Palma (Mallorca); this will become their 12th route from that hub.

Today, Thomsonfly has announced the much awaited details of the routes they will fly from their new base at Doncaster. As with their base at Coventry, they will be the first low-cost airline to fly from Doncaster.

We have just added 10 new flybe routes to the database (in addition to other new summer routes announced over the last few days) for the summer 2005 season.
They will begin new routes from Birmingham (International) to La Rochelle and Bergerac, from Southampton to Limoges, Exeter to Palma (Mallorca) and Aberdeen to Belfast (City) (all beginning in March).

Czech low-cost airline, SmartWings, have announced 4 new routes for the upcoming summer season (beginning May 2005). The new routes are from their base in Prague to Larnaca (SmartWings will become the first low-cost carrier to fly here), Heraklion, Thessaloniki and Palma (Mallorca).

Over the last few days, a number of new Wizz routes have been released. Beginning on 29 March 2005, they will commence flying between Budapest and Venice, Budapest and Katowice, Katowice and Girona, Gdansk and Stockholm (Skavsta) and Katowice and Frankfurt (Hahn).

Further to their announcement last week that they were due to form a new base at Birmingham (International), bmibaby have today announced the 9 new routes they will be flying from 7 January 2005 from Birmingham. These include: Alicante, Knock, Amsterdam, Belfast (International), Edinburgh, Geneva, Malaga, Palma (Mallorca) and Prague.
This new base is in addition to their already-established hub at East Midlands.

EUjet have announced, after a much anticipated wait, that they will begin a budget operation primarily based at Kent (Manston), an airport the owners would like to see dubbed as ‘London-Manston’. They will also have a 2nd hub at Shannon in Ireland.
Further routes are due to begin from Manston in October, including: Edinburgh, Glasgow, Madrid, Malaga, Manchester, Milan (Malpensa) and Palma (Mallorca). Their final batch of new routes (still from Manston!) are scheduled to take-off in December, including: Geneva, Salzburg, Toulouse, Turin and Zurich.
