New easyJet routes for summer

easyJet continue with their usual summer expansion for this year and have added some new routes from the UK for 2011. These include:

flybe to fly from Knock to Edinburgh

Perhaps encroaching on Ryanair‘s territory, flybe are to begin flying from Knock to Edinburgh this year. They will begin flying five times per week on this route from 19 April 2011. Tickets are available at www.flybe.com.

Vueling to launch Edinburgh and Istanbul flights

Spanish low-cost airline Vueling will begin flights from their Barcelona base to Edinburgh and Istanbul (Sabiha) this summer (from 24 June 2010). At the same time they will also launch flights between Munich and Valencia. Tickets are available at www.vueling.com.

Three new Stockholm routes from Norwegian

Norwegian Air Shuttle will open three new routes from their Stockholm (Arlanda) base for the summer season, including flights to London (Gatwick), Edinburgh and Munich. The new routes begin from April 2010.

Edinburgh to Palma flights from Jet2

Jet2 have put a new route on sale from their Edinburgh base to Palma. They will fly twice per week on this route for the summer from 21 June 2010. For more info see www.jet2.com.

flybe to fly to Manston (Kent)

flybe have just put a route on sale from Edinburgh to Kent Manston – their only route to Kent Manston and the only low-cost route to operate from Kent Manston since EUJet went bankrupt in 2005. flybe will begin flying daily on this route from the end of May 2010. Kaunas to be the next Ryanair base..where else?

Ryanair will launch ten new routes from Kaunas in Lithuania this summer and will make it their 40th European base. From May 2010 they will begin flying from Kaunas to Edinburgh, Girona, Berlin (Schoenefeld), London (Gatwick), Oslo (Rygge), Tampere, Weeze, Milan (Orio al Serio) and Paris (Beauvais).

New Jet2 routes from Edinburgh

Jet2 have put two new routes on sale from their Edinburgh base for next summer. From 17 May 2010 they will begin flying three times per week to Faro, and from the end of April they will fly weekly to Dubrovnik. Tickets are on sale now for both new routes at www.jet2.com.

Ryanair expands Edinburgh base

Ryanair will expand their operation at Edinburgh this winter with their announcement to launch eight new routes. From November 2009 they will fly from Edinburgh to Girona, Las Palmas, Arrecife, Tenerife (Sur), Brussels (Charleroi), Gdansk, Oslo (Torp) and Memmingen.

FlyGlobespan announce winter flights from Edinburgh to Geneva

FlyGlobespan will fly twice per week between Edinburgh and Geneva this winter. They will begin their flights (which operate on Saturday and Sunday) from 26 December 2009.

Ryanair have put two new routes on sale from Haugesund in Norway for this summer season. They will begin flying from Haugesund to Edinburgh and Alicante from July 2009.

Ryanair announces expansion at Bristol, Edinburgh and Alicante

Ryanair have this week announced a massive expansion of their operations from Bristol (from July 2009), Edinburgh (from April 2009) and Alicante (from June 2009). The new routes that they will launch are as follows:

Norwegian to replace Sterling on Copenhagen routes

Norwegian Air Shuttle will launch a large number of new routes from Copenhagen, replacing the collapsed airline Sterling, most beginning at the end of March 2009. They will launch routes to Amsterdam, Budapest, Edinburgh, London (Gatwick), Faro, Heraklion, Krakow, Palma, Paris (Orly), Pisa, Prague and Split.

Massive Ryanair expansion from Alghero, Cagliari and Bologna

Ryanair have announced the acquisition of three new aircraft, which they will base at Alghero and Cagliari, to become their 6th and 7th Italian base airports. At the end of March 2009 they will launch new routes including:

They will also launch new routes from their Bologna (Guglielmo Marconi) base in December. These will include Bologna (Guglielmo Marconi) to Oslo (Torp), Paris (Beauvais) and Weeze.

Three new Jet2 routes from Edinburgh

Jet2 have put three new routes on sale from their Edinburgh base for summer 2009. These include flights to Venice (Marco Polo), Ibiza and Mahon. The new routes begin on 21 May 2009 and are available to book now at www.jet2.com.

New routes for FlyGlobespan

FlyGlobespan have put five new routes on sale, including flights to Turkey, Egypt and the Canary Islands. They have added flights to Dalaman, Turkey (starting in May 2009) from Edinburgh, Glasgow (International) and Aberdeen. From Aberdeen they will also launch flights to Sharm El Sheikh and Las Palmas in December 2008.

Edinburgh to Sardinia with Jet2

Jet2 have put on sale a new route from their Edinburgh base to Olbia (Sardinia) for next summer. They are due to begin weekly flights on this route from 11 May 2009.

FlyGlobespan resume Geneva flights

FlyGlobespan will resume flights from their Edinburgh base to Geneva next winter. Twice weekly flights will begin again from 20 December 2008.

Ryanair to open 27th base at Edinburgh

Ryanair will make Edinburgh their 27th base this year. They will add twice weekly flights from Edinburgh to Weeze from June 2008. In September, they will also launch flights to Billund, Berlin (Schoenefeld), Bournemouth, Bratislava, Krakow, Lodz, Poznan, Palma, Stockholm (Skavsta) and Wroclaw.

New easyJet routes from Bristol

easyJet will add three routes from their Bristol base next year. From 23 April 2008, they will begin flying from Bristol to Split, Biarritz and Olbia. At the same time, they will also launch flights from Edinburgh to Nice and from Glasgow (International) to Faro.

easyJet have also put an additional flight on sale to Pisa from their London (Luton) base. They will begin flying this route from the end of March 2008.

flybe Summer 2008 expansion

flybe will expand their operation next summer, when they will launch 23 new routes. This will include expansion in Scotland, with new routes being launched from Aberdeen, Inverness, Edinburgh and Glasgow (International), in addition to flights from England (Liverpool, Manchester, Southampton, Exeter, Newquay and Birmingham), Wales (Cardiff) and Northern Ireland (Belfast (City)).

New easyJet routes to Gdansk, Bucharest and others

easyJet have put 12 new routes on sale, including their first routes to Gdansk. They will fly to Gdansk from Bristol, Edinburgh and London (Gatwick). They will also begin flying to Bucharest (Baneasa) from London (Gatwick) and Madrid, to Innsbruck from Bristol and London (Gatwick), from Madrid to Paris (Charles de Gaulle) and Palma, from Nice to Brussels (International), and from Milan (Malpensa) to Barcelona and Bari.

Edinburgh to Szczecin with Centralwings

centralwings will begin flying from Edinburgh to the Polish city, Szczecin. They will fly twice per week from 27 October 2007. Tickets can be purchased now at www.centralwings.com.

easyJet to fly to Madeira

easyJet have put more new routes on sale for the winter 2007/08 season. These include flights from their Bristol and London (Stansted) bases to Funchal. These will be their first routes to Funchal. They will also begin flying from Bristol and London (Gatwick) to Lisbon, from Edinburgh and Bournemouth to Krakow and from Barcelona to Lyon. All of these flights begin operating from 28 October 2007.

Three new low-cost routes from Poznan

Central European low-cost airline centralwings will begin three new routes from Poznan from the end of October 2007. They will begin flying from Poznan to Rome (Ciampino), Paris (Beauvais) and Edinburgh. Jet2 have put some winter routes on sale, including new flights to Chambery from Edinburgh and Belfast (International). New routes from flybe on sale

Following their recent acquisition of BA Connect, flybe have put 11 new routes on sale from their UK hubs. These include flights from Manchester to Bergerac, Limoges and La Rochelle, from Southampton to Paris (Charles de Gaulle), Isle of Man and Frankfurt (International), from London (Gatwick) to Bergerac, from Cardiff to Paris (Charles de Gaulle), from Edinburgh to Rennes and from Guernsey to Norwich and Manchester.

easyJet will add two new routes from their Dortmund base on 30 May 2007. These will include flights to Edinburgh (4 times per week) and Thessaloniki (3 times per week).

Sterling flights to Biarritz

Norwegian to launch Edinburgh to Oslo connection

Norwegian Air Shuttle will begin flying between the Scottish and Norwegian capitals when they launch a new route between Edinburgh and Oslo (International). They will fly three times per week from 15 April 2007. Flights can be booked now at www.norwegian.no.

easyJet expansion at Edinburgh

easyJet will expand their operation at Edinburgh by adding three new routes. They will begin flying to Madrid (from 25 February 2007), Milan (Malpensa) (from 21 May) and Palma (from 10 June). Separately, they have also announced that they will also begin flying between Geneva and Oporto from 29 June.

Edinburgh to Munich is a new easyJet route

easyJet will launch a new daily flight between Edinburgh and Munich. The new daily flight, which begins on 04 April 2007, is the first new route announced by easyJet as part of their expansion plans for Edinburgh. easyJet are expected to announce more new routes for 2007 from Edinburgh in the coming weeks.

From 31 October 2006, Ryanair have announced they begin flying 6 new routes. They will fly from their Shannon base to Edinburgh and Bournemouth. Air Scotland expands.. into England

Air Scotland will scale back the flights they operate from Scotland this summer, in favour of flying from English airports instead. From 07 June 2006, they will begin flying weekly from Birmingham and Newcastle to Girona. This follows their recent announcement that Manchester would become an Air Scotland base.

This move will see them scale back some routes planned from Glasgow (International) and Edinburgh.

flybe adds Edinburgh to Newquay connection

flybe will begin flying between Edinburgh and Newquay from 10 July 2006. They will fly 3 times per week on this route, which looks currently scheduled to operate as a summer only service.

Further route development for easyJet

easyJet have announced that they will launch new routes from London (Luton), Edinburgh, London (Gatwick) and Paris (Orly).

They will fly from London (Gatwick) to Split, their second destination in Croatia – announced just a week after the first. From London (Luton) they will begin flying to Bordeaux and Rimini. easyJet are also planning a major expansion at Edinburgh – their first new route will be a weekly service to Alicante.

easyJet have also announced a new route from Paris (Orly) to Ajaccio (Corsica), making the first low-cost route to Ajaccio.

easyJet to offer priority boarding – at a cost

easyJet are to trial the opportunity for priority boarding by paying a £5 fee from the end of this month. The trial, which will involve flights between London (Luton) and Edinburgh, is aimed at business customers.

easyJet expands at Glasgow

easyJet have announced that they will launch 4 new routes from Glasgow (International). This follows an announcement that they would cease operating their route from Glasgow (International) to Amsterdam at the end of March.

They will launch new routes to Alicante and Malaga (beginning 07 July 2006), Berlin (Schoenefeld) (from 03 May) and Palma (from 20 May).

Further expansion is expected for easyJet at both Glasgow (International) and Edinburgh over the coming months. This is as a result of a new deal to reduce airport charges at these airports for easyJet.

FlyGlobespan expands for summer

FlyGlobespan will launch new routes to Pula and Menorca from their bases at Glasgow (International) and Edinburgh. Both routes will begin at the end of May 2006 and are currently scheduled to operate until the end of October.

This will make FlyGlobespan the first low-cost airline to fly to Pula.

Centralwings to expand UK and Ireland routes

Centralwings will launch 5 new routes to the UK and Republic of Ireland for the summer 2006 season. They will launch a route from Lodz to Dublin in direct competition with Ryanair, who recently announced that they would start flying this route from 04 April. They will also launch a route to Dublin from Gdansk.

In addition, they will launch routes to Edinburgh from Gdansk and Katowice, and to Leeds (Bradford) from Warsaw. At the same time, Centralwings will also launch a route from Krakow to Bologna (Guglielmo Marconi). All routes commence at the end of March 2006, and are available to book now.

SkyEurope will expand their Krakow base, where they currently operate 7 routes.

They will add a further 8 routes in 2006 (and reopen one to Barcelona) from March to June, including Edinburgh, Birmingham, Brussels, Bologna, Stockholm (Arlanda), Naples, Turin and Athens.

FlyGlobespan expands for summer 2006

FlyGlobespan have announced an additional 3 new routes for summer 2006. These include Edinburgh to Rome (Fiumicino) and Bournemouth, and from Glasgow to Ibiza. Flights to Bournemouth will operate daily, while the other routes will operate once per week.

Air Berlin to fly UK domestic routes

Air Berlin have announced that from 16 December 2005 they will become the first German airline to offer domestic flights within the UK. They are due to make London (Stansted) a hub airport, adding routes to Manchester and Glasgow.

They will fly up to twice daily on these new routes. Stansted to Glasgow is a highly competitive route, with existing competition from easyJet and FlyGlobespan. FlyGlobespan have even introduced free breakfasts on their morning flights on this route, and their route between Edinburgh and Stansted, in an attempt to lure passengers away from their rivals.

Air Berlin will also become the first airline to use Stansted as a transfer hub. It will be possible to connect from Glasgow or Manchester to the destinations Air Berlin already serves from Stansted, and Air Berlin will ensure the safe transfer of your luggage from one flight to the next. This is exactly the sort of frill that was traditionally removed from the low-cost airline model.

FlyGlobespan adds Spanish routes from Edinburgh

FlyGlobespan will fly from their base at Edinburgh to Murcia and Ibiza for the 2006 summer season.

This information comes following the announcement earlier in the week that Jet2 will begin flying from Edinburgh to Murcia. The Jet2 offering looks far more favourable, as they will operate up to 5 times per week during the peak summer season, compared to the once-per-week service offered by FlyGlobespan.

The FlyGlobespan flight to Ibiza will operate twice per week. Both routes commence on 01 April 2006.

Jet2 want your help to expand at Edinburgh!

It has been confirmed that Jet2 are making Edinburgh their 6th UK base, as indicated in our story this morning.

It’s not often the public get a direct say in the expansion of an airline, but Jet2 are asking the public to come forward and nominate routes that they would like to see flown from Edinburgh. E-mail your suggestions to edinburgh@jet2.com.

This development could see Jet2 become the primary low-cost airline at Edinburgh. A number of other airlines already operate to the Scottish capital, however there still remains plenty of scope for a low-cost airline offering high frequency flights abroad.

Jet2 expanding at Edinburgh

Jet2 will launch a new route from Edinburgh to Murcia from 03 April 2006. Jet2 began flying their first route to Edinburgh, from Manchester, earlier this year.

Jet2 are expected to announce a number of new routes from Edinburgh shortly, perhaps indicating that it could become a new hub airport for the airline.

FlyGlobespan to Amsterdam

Not content with competing with easyJet on routes between London (Stansted) and Glasgow, Edinburgh and Geneva, FlyGlobespan will launch a new route from Glasgow to Amsterdam.

FlyGlobespan will launch a daily service to Amsterdam from 10 February 2006. This will replace a long standing easyJet service on this route, which will cease operation at the end of this month.

Helsinki is new base for Sterling

Sterling, the Scandinavian low-cost airline currently in the process of merging with Maersk, will make Helsinki a base from March 2006.

From the end of March, they are scheduled to begin flying 11 new routes from Helsinki to Rome (Ciampino), Prague, Edinburgh, Barcelona, Paris (Beauvais), Nice, Malaga, Faro, Crete, Budapest and Bologna.

easyJet launches Geneva connections

easyJet will launch 3 new routes to Geneva this winter season. On 15 December 2005 they will begin flying daily from Doncaster and Edinburgh. They will also begin a weekly service from Glasgow on 17 December.

This will be the first route that easyJet will operate from the recently opened passenger airport at Doncaster.

flyglobespan expands at Stansted

flyglobespan, the low-cost carrier based on Scotland, began competing on the Glasgow and Edinburgh to London (Stansted) routes earlier in the year.

They have announced for the winter 2005 season that they will fly 2 new routes from Stansted. They will begin flying daily to Tenerife (Sur) from 01 November 2005, and to Geneva from 22 December.

Centralwings announces new winter routes

Centralwings have put their winter 2005/06 timetable on sale, including 7 new routes.

This includes 4 new routes from Warsaw to Shannon, Edinburgh, Grenoble and Milan (Malpensa).

They will also begin flying to Dublin from Katowice and Wroclaw on 16 December 2005. They will also launch a route from Wroclaw to Milan (Malpensa)

flyglobespan will begin flying 2 new routes from their bases at Glasgow (International) and Edinburgh to London (Stansted).

From 01 June 2005 they will fly twice-daily from both bases. Both of these new routes will be indirect competition with easyJet, who fly the exact same routes.

flyglobespan winter sales begin

flyglobespan have put their winter 2005/06 seats on sale already for 3 routes, with more to be announced in the coming weeks. It is now possible to book tickets on flights from Glasgow (International) to Alicante, Malaga and Tenerife, until the end of February 2006.

flyglobespan also have tickets available on their new summer route from Edinburgh to Prague, beginning in May.

Sterling adds 7 new summer routes

Sterling have put 7 new routes on sale for summer 2005, including flights to Montpelier from their bases at Billund, Copenhagen (Kastrup), Stockholm (Arlanda) and Gothenburg (Landvetter). In addition they have will launch new routes from Oslo to Athens and Edinburgh and also Copenhagen to Edinburgh.

These new routes commence from May, although some begin later and only run for the summer season. Check their schedules for full details, as many of the flights are only once or twice per week.

flybe move in on Norwich

Following their announcement yesterday to make Leeds (Bradford) a new hub, today flybe have announced that they will also make Norwich a hub airport.

They will begin flying from Norwich on 27 March 2005 when they launch routes to Belfast (City) and Edinburgh. On 07 May they will launch a route to Jersey and on 16 June they will launch a daily route to Glasgow (International).

flybe will be the 2nd low-cost airline to make use of Norwich, Air Wales recently began a route between Norwich, Dublin and Cardiff.

flybe ‘lands’ at Liverpool

flybe have announced that they are to make Liverpool a new hub on their network. From 2005 they will begin flights to Belfast (City) (on 10 February), Edinburgh, Glasgow (International) (both on 27 March 2005, when they commence flying their summer timetable) and Jersey (from 07 May).

This expansion at Liverpool will make flybe the 7th low cost carrier to fly to the airport, further making Liverpool a hub for budget travel in the UK and further fuelling competition in the north west. Their announcement comes only shortly after Air Wales and Wizz Air have announced routes to Liverpool, which is probably best known as a major easyJet hub.

Hapag-Lloyd Express announce new routes for 05

Hapag-Lloyd Express have announced a selection of new routes which they will begin flying from 09 March 2005. These include Cologne-Bonn to Shannon, Newcastle and Rijeka in Croatia. They are the first airline to add Rijeka to the ‘European low-fares map’, and will also fly there from Hanover.

From Hanover they will also begin flying new routes to Stockholm (Arlanda) and Pisa. From Munich they will add routes to Newcastle, Palermo and Olbia,

In addition, on 05 December 2004 Hapag-Lloyd Express will begin a new service connecting Hamburg and Edinburgh.

bmibaby announces new routes from Birmingham

Further to their announcement last week that they were due to form a new base at Birmingham (International), bmibaby have today announced the 9 new routes they will be flying from 7 January 2005 from Birmingham. These include: Alicante, Knock, Amsterdam, Belfast (International), Edinburgh, Geneva, Malaga, Palma (Mallorca) and Prague.

This new base is in addition to their already-established hub at East Midlands.

EUjet plans British budget launch for September 04

EUjet have announced, after a much anticipated wait, that they will begin a budget operation primarily based at Kent (Manston), an airport the owners would like to see dubbed as ‘London-Manston’. They will also have a 2nd hub at Shannon in Ireland.

From Manston, EUjet are scheduled to fly to a range of destinations in Europe, flights beginning in September include: Amsterdam, Copenhagen, Dublin, Faro, Girona, Jersey, Murcia, Nice and Prague.

Further routes are due to begin from Manston in October, including: Edinburgh, Glasgow, Madrid, Malaga, Manchester, Milan (Malpensa) and Palma (Mallorca). Their final batch of new routes (still from Manston!) are scheduled to take-off in December, including: Geneva, Salzburg, Toulouse, Turin and Zurich.

Their routes from Shannon are due to begin from September (again over a period of months), to Dublin, Geneva, Malaga and Murcia.

Duo announces new routes

From 1 June Duo will begin flying from Birmingham to Shannon and Pisa. In addition they will begin flying from Edinburgh to Shannon and Bordeaux.
