new bmibaby routes to Germany for winter

bmibaby will begin flying four routes to Germany this winter, including flights from East Midlands to Cologne-Bonn and Munich, from Cardiff to Munich and Birmingham to Cologne-Bonn. Germanwings to add Copenhagen flights from Cologne

Germanwings are to begin flying to Copenhagen from their base at Cologne-Bonn next year. From 28 March 2010 they will fly six times per week on this route, with a number of onward connections available to further Germanwings destinations at Cologne-Bonn.

Germanwings to fly from Manchester to Cologne

Germanwings to fly to Sarajevo

Germanwings have put their winter 2008/09 timetable on sale, which includes a new route from their Stuttgart base to Sarajevo. This route will begin from 27 October 2008. They will also launch flights to Sarajevo from Cologne-Bonn in mid-August.

Blue Air to fly to Sibiu

Blue Air will begin flights next month to the Transylvanian city of Sibiu. From 01 June 2008, they will begin flights to Sibiu from Stuttgart and Bucharest (Baneasa). From 14 June, they will also launch flights to Sibiu from Cologne-Bonn.

Germanwings to fly to Reykjavik

Germanwings have put flights on sale from their Cologne-Bonn base to Reykjavik for the summer 2008 season. They will fly twice per week on this route from 04 June 2008.

Germanwings to fly to Osijek

Germanwings will begin a new route to the Croatian city of Osijek – the economic and cultural centre of Slavonia. They will begin flying five times per week to Osijek from their Cologne-Bonn base from the end of March 2008.

Click4Sky – a new European virtual low-cost airline

Click4Sky is a new low-cost airline created by CSA Czech Airlines. Unlike most other low-cost airlines, Click4Sky does not operate any flights – instead it is being used as a marketing brand in order to sell unsold seats on existing CSA flights. In addition, the airline will sell all seats at a fixed price. Customers travelling with Click4Sky will experience exactly the same on-board service as those travelling with CSA.

They will sell tickets on flights to 36 European destinations from their Prague hub. Germanwings summer 2007 schedule on sale

Germanwings have put flights on sale until the end of October 2007. This includes a number of new routes from their Stuttgart, Cologne-Bonn, Berlin (Schoenefeld) and Hamburg (Fuhlsbuettel) bases. Flights begin from the end of March.

From Cologne-Bonn they will begin flying to Alghero (Sardinia), Zadar (Croatia), Sarajevo (Bosnia and Herzegovina), Bucharest (Baneasa) (Romania), Sofia (Bulgaria), Bourgas (Bulgaria), Varna (Bulgaria) and Kavala. From Stuttgart they will begin flying to Bastia (Corsica), from Hamburg (Fuhlsbuettel) to Palma and from Berlin (Schoenefeld) to Bourgas (Bulgaria), Verona (Villafranca) (Bulgaria) and Balaton  (Hungary).

Blue Air add winter routes

Romanian low-cost airline Blue Air will begin flying new routes from their Bucharest (Baneasa) base to Brussels (Charleroi), Cologne-Bonn and Bologna (Guglielmo Marconi) from 29 October 2006.

Germanwings to launch new routes for summer

Germanwings have put a number of new routes on sale for the summer 2007 season. These include flights from their Cologne-Bonn base to Rhodos, Malta, Corfu, Lamezia-Terme and Mykonos. They will launch new routes from their Stuttgart hub to Athens, Ankara (Esenboga), Lamezia-Terme, Malta and Ibiza, and also from Hamburg (Fuhlsbuettel) to Corfu and from Berlin (Schoenefeld) to Mykonos.

Centralwings winter schedule on sale including new routes

centralwings, the low-cost airline owned by Polish state airline LOT, have put their winter 2006/07 schedule on sale. This includes many new routes, such as flights from their Warsaw base to London (Stansted), Lille and Grenoble. They heavily upgrade the routes from their Wroclaw base, including flights to London (Gatwick), Cologne-Bonn, Cork and Rome (Ciampino). They will also launch routes between Krakow and Cork, Gdansk and Shannon.

With many of these new routes being to Irish airports, one wonders whether centralwings is attempting to challenge Ryanair.

easyJet targets BA with Gatwick expansion

easyJet will increase capacity at their London (Gatwick) base by 10% this winter. This will be reflected in additional flights on existing routes to Madrid, Cologne-Bonn, Milan, Amsterdam, Berlin (Schoenefeld) and Athens.

They will also add a new route between London (Gatwick) and Glasgow (International), which will operate 3 times every day.

With this expansion, easyJet aim to attract business passengers currently flying with BA. easyJet is now taking the time to publicise a change in policy which allows passengers to transfer to earlier flights free of charge, if there is space on an earlier flight. easyJet also continues to be attractive due to an unlimited weight allowance on hand luggage.

Centavia – the new Serbian low-cost airline?

A new low-cost airline is due to launch from the Serbian capital, Belgrade. Centavia expect to begin flying with 2 aircraft during the summer 2006 season. They will initially operate some summer routes to Turkey, Greece, Egypt and Spain.

They expect to launch regular routes from their Belgrade base to Basel, Cologne-Bonn, Bratislava, Budapest, Hamburg (Fuhlsbuettel) and Milan (Orio al Serio) from autumn 2006.

Belgrade back on the European low-cost map

Belgrade will return to the low-cost map of Europe, as German budget airline Germanwings will begin flying there from 02 September 2006. They will fly from their Cologne-Bonn base.

Germanwings to fly to Albania and Serbia

Germanwings will begin flights from their Cologne-Bonn base to Albania and Serbia and Montenegro from June 2006. From 11 June they will begin flying to Pristina and from 24 June they will begin flying to Tirana.

Both destinations have previously been served by low-cost airlines, but routes have been dropped. These will also be the only low-cost flights to these countries. Flights can be booked at

Germanwings launches flights to St Petersburg

Germanwings will launch flights to St. Petersburg from Cologne-Bonn on 28 April 2006. They will fly 3 times weekly, restoring St. Petersburg back on the low-cost airline map of Europe.

They have also announced details of 2 new routes from Stuttgart which will be launched in April/May. They will begin flying weekly to Malaga and Faro.

Hapag-Lloyd Express will begin flying between Birmingham and Cologne-Bonn from early May 2006. This is in response to the announcement that Germanwings will scrap their flights on this route at the end of March.

Germanwings summer 2006 timetable

Later this evening, Germanwings will put their summer 2006 timetable on sale. This will include new routes from Cologne-Bonn to Alicante, Gdansk, Gothenburg (Saeve), Heraklion, Jerez and Antalya. Hapag-Lloyd Express summer 2006 flight schedule

Hapag-Lloyd Express will put their summer flight schedule (for flights between 26 March – 30 September 2006) on sale today at 17:00 (UK time).

Hemus Air to enter low-cost market?

Bulgarian airline Hemus Air (formerly a state-owned airline, but now under private ownership) has reacted to Wizz Air‘s announcement to launch routes from Budapest to the Bulgarian capital – Sofia, with a decision to launch low-cost services.

They are said to be considering flying from Sofia to Vienna, Stuttgart, Cologne-Bonn and Leipzig using a budget airline model.

SkyEurope will add 2 new routes from their base at Bratislava on 30 October 2005.

Fare4U, the low-cost operation at Air Malta, will launch their 2nd route on 01 April 2005. The new route will connect Cologne-Bonn to Malta. In addition, they will increase the frequency of their London (Stansted) to Malta route from 3 to 5 times weekly.

EUjet announce new summer routes

EUJet will commence 8 new routes from Kent (Manston) for the summer 2005. From 27 March they will launch new flights to Alicante, Budapest, Belfast (International), Newcastle, Girona and Cologne-Bonn. From 01 May they will launch routes to Seville and Valencia.

centralwings – a new low cost carrier for Europe!

While the bankruptcy of Air Polonia is still unclear, today we learn that a new low-cost carrier – centralwings – will launch next year, backed by Polish state airline LOT.

centralwings will use 3 bases in Poland, Warsaw, Krakow and Katowice. They will commence flights to London (Gatwick) from Warsaw and Krakow on 01 February 2005.

They will then begin the roll-out of their summer timetable during March – May. This will include routes between Warsaw and Bologna (Guglielmo Marconi), Lisbon, Malta, Girona, Prague, Nuremberg, Catania, from Krakow to Rome (Ciampino) and from Katowice to Cologne-Bonn and Hanover.

Hapag-Lloyd Express announce new routes for 05

Hapag-Lloyd Express have announced a selection of new routes which they will begin flying from 09 March 2005. These include Cologne-Bonn to Shannon, Newcastle and Rijeka in Croatia. They are the first airline to add Rijeka to the ‘European low-fares map’, and will also fly there from Hanover.

From Hanover they will also begin flying new routes to Stockholm (Arlanda) and Pisa. From Munich they will add routes to Newcastle, Palermo and Olbia,

Hapag-Lloyd Express have announced the launch of a new route between Coventry and Cologne-Bonn in their winter timetable, beginning November 2004.

easyJet announces Gatwick expansion

While rumour has it BA are going to pull a number of routes from London (Gatwick), easyJet has announced that they are to expand their operation there. They are already scheduled to begin flying to Cologne-Bonn in September. In addition, they have now announced that they will fly to Budapest and increase the frequency of their Madrid flights.

In November, they will begin flying to Rome (Ciampino) and Venice, they will also increase the frequency of their Cologne-Bonn flights.

In February 2005, easyJet are planning to start flying to Murcia, and also increase the frequency of their Geneva flights.

Hapag-Lloyd Express and Air Polonia announce code share

Hapag-Lloyd Express and Air Polonia have announced a code share on the routes from Warsaw to Frankfurt (Hahn) and from Katowice to Cologne-Bonn.

This is further evidence of the growing trend towards route sharing and partnering amongst budget airlines in Europe. Both routes are currently operated by Air Polonia.
