Air Berlin buys dba

Air Berlin, the 3rd largest low-cost airline in Europe, will buy competing German low-cost airline dba. Apparently the motivation behind this move is to increase their capacity at Munich and Dusseldorf. The purchase is said to cost in the region of “mid-double-digit million” Euros.

From 01 April 2007, the airlines will offer a combined flight schedule, but will continue to operate as separate companies.

dba to fly between Stuttgart and Moscow

German low-cost airline dba will begin flying directly between Stuttgart and Moscow (Domodedovo) next week. This will see them compete with Germanwings who already fly between Stuttgart and Moscow (Vnukovo).

TUI plans monster low-cost merger

It has been reported that TUI Group, which owns Hapag-Lloyd Express, are in discussions with a number of other low-cost airlines regarding a potential merger.

They are believed to be talking to Air Berlin, dba and Condor. Their intention would be to create a low-cost airline large enough to compete with the major 2 European budget airlines, easyJet and Ryanair.

dba adds Dusseldorf to Dresden route

dba will begin flying twice per day between Dusseldorf and Dresden from 08 May 2006. Flights are already available to book at www.flydba.com.

Later this month, dba will launch a daily flight between Munich and Paris (Orly).

dba to take over Germania Express

It was revealed earlier in the week and confirmed today that dba are planning to taking over 15 routes currently operated by Germania Express. This will see them lease planes from Germania and operate routes on their behalf, but it is unclear to what extent dba will take over the operation of the airline.

It is also believed that dba are interested taking over Olympic Airlines, the Greek national carrier.

dba and Monarch Scheduled added to Europebyair network

Of interest to those outside Europe coming to visit is the Europebyair programme. This allows people to travel on all the routes operated by a number of airlines in Europe for $99 (excluding airport taxes) per flight. Bookings can be made in advance or on the fly.

Monarch Scheduled and dba have just been added to the network as new partners, joining other low-cost carriers including Alpi Eagles, flybe, Virgin Express and VLM, legacy carriers, and oddly – even Eurostar.

Europebyair passes can only be purchased outside Europe and are only available to non-Europeans.

dba will launch a new route on 04 April 2005 between Munich and Muenster.

dba adds route to Hanover

In addition to their recently announced new route from Munich (Franz Josef Strauss) to Dresden, dba have also announced a new route from Munich to Hanover.

Flights will begin on this route from 13 September 2004.

dba announces new route Dresden – Munich

On 16 September 2004, dba will begin flying between Dresden and Munich (Franz Josef Strauss).
