Ryanair expands at Weeze

Ryanair will expand their operation at Weeze airport (or Dusseldorf as they like to call it) this winter. From 27 October 2008 they will begin flying from Weeze to Birmingham, Manchester, Dublin, Tenerife (Sur), Santander, Faro, Ancona, Oslo (Torp), Gothenburg (Saeve) and Riga.

London Heathrow to Bilbao with Clickair

Spanish low-cost airline clickair are to begin flights from London (Heathrow) to Bilbao in northern Spain. They will begin flying on this route from 26 October 2008.

New Morocco and Rome flights for easyJet

easyJet will launch two new routes from Paris (Charles de Gaulle) to Morocco next winter. This will include flights from Paris (Charles de Gaulle) to Casablanca and Tangier which will begin from 27 October 2008. From 02 November they will also launch flights to Rome (Fiumicino) from both London (Gatwick) and Milan (Malpensa).

Germanwings to fly to Sarajevo

Germanwings have put their winter 2008/09 timetable on sale, which includes a new route from their Stuttgart base to Sarajevo. This route will begin from 27 October 2008. They will also launch flights to Sarajevo from Cologne-Bonn in mid-August.

New seasonal flights from Transavia

Transavia have put five new seasonal routes on sale to Austria and Germany. These include routes to Innsbruck from Berlin (Tegel), Brussels (International) and Hamburg (Fuhlsbuettel), as well as flights from Brussels (International) to Salzburg and Rotterdam to Friedrichshafen.

Milan to Stockholm with easyJet

easyJet will begin flying from their Milan (Malpensa) base to Stockholm (Arlanda) this winter – their second route to Stockholm (Arlanda). Flights will begin on this route from the end of October 2008.

Jet2 to launch Menorca flights from Blackpool

Jet2 will launch flights from their Blackpool base to Mahon next year. They are due to begin flying weekly on this route from 15 June 2009. Book now at www.jet2.com.

Ponta Delgada flights with Air Berlin

German low-cost airline Air Berlin will fly from their Nuremberg base this winter to Portugal’s furthermost European outpost, Ponta Delgada, in the Azores. They will fly weekly on this route from 03 November 2008.

New Air Berlin routes from November

Air Berlin have announced four new routes which will launch from November 2008. These include Nuremberg to Milan (Malpensa) and Zurich, as well as from Saarbruecken to Zurich and Stuttgart to Lamezia-Terme. These new routes are available to book now at www.airberlin.com.

Gatwick to Basel with easyJet

easyJet will begin flying between London (Gatwick) and Basel. They will fly six times per week on this route from 27 October 2008.

New Ryanair routes from Luton and Stockholm

Ryanair have put five new winter routes on sale, which will begin flying at the end of October 2008. These include a new route from their London (Luton) base to Biarritz, and flights from Stockholm (Skavsta) to the Polish cities of Krakow, Lodz and Wroclaw as well as the Czech capital, Prague.

easyJet launch Helsinki and Portuguese domestic routes

easyJet have today put on sale three new routes for the winter 2008 season, featuring their first flights to Helsinki and also their first domestic route in Portugal. From the beginning of November, easyJet will launch the only low-cost route between the United Kingdom and Helsinki when they launch daily flights from London (Gatwick). From 27 October 2008 they also will begin flying between Lisbon and Funchal, and from Madrid to Sofia.

New Wizz Air routes from Kiev

Wizz Air will launch two new domestic Ukrainian routes from Kiev from mid-September. They will begin flying from Kiev to Kharkov and Zaporozhye from 15 September 2008.

flybe to offer through ticketing

flybe have announced that they now support through ticketing. This allows customers to change flights on the flybe network and have their luggage transferred between flights, although passengers are still required to go through security at their intermediate stops. This also allows passengers to book interconnecting flights in a single transaction. For more information visit www.flybe.com.

New easyJet winter routes from Manchester and Gatwick

easyJet have put two new winter routes on sale from their Manchester base to Geneva and Sofia, both starting from 11 December 2008. They will also begin flying from London (Gatwick) to Lyon from 03 October.

Vueling and Clickair to merge

Spanish low-cost airlines Vueling and clickair have announced an agreement to merge in an attempt to remain competitive in the European low-cost airline industry. Under the deal announced, Clickair (which is currently owned by incumbent Iberia, who hold an 80% share) will be absorbed into Vueling. More information is available at www.vueling.com.

Girona to Sofia with Wizz Air

Wizz Air will begin flying between the Bulgarian capital, Sofia, and Girona later this year. They will launch twice weekly flights on this route from 15 September 2008.

Helvetic to end scheduled flying

The Swiss low-cost airline, helvetic, have announced that they will end all scheduled flying at the end of the current summer season. They will use the capacity to offer seasonal charter flights, and claim that no staff will be made redundant. helvetic have cited the increasing cost of oil as their reason for making this decision.

Jet2 have put two new routes on sale for 2009, including flights from Belfast (International) to Jersey (launching in May 2009) and from Belfast (International) to Mahon (launching in June). Tickets are already on sale for these new routes at www.jet2.com.
