Kullaflyg to operate summer Visby – Angelholm route

Kullaflyg will fly between Angelholm and Visby from the beginning of July 2006. They will operate flights only during the peak summer.

MyAir announce 2 new routes for summer

Italian low-cost airline MyAir will launch 2 new routes this summer. These are Lamezia-Terme to Bologna (Guglielmo Marconi) and Milan (Orio al Serio) to Lampedusa. They will be launched on 01 June 2006 and 22 July respectively.

Wizz Air adds Cologne – Gdansk connection

From 07 June 2006, Wizz Air will begin flying between Cologne-Bonn and Gdansk. They will fly 3 times per week on this new route.

Norwegian to launch new Bergen routes

Norwegian Air Shuttle will launch 2 new routes from Bergen at the beginning of April 2006. They will begin flying twice per week to Manchester and 3 times per week to Berlin (Schoenefeld).

Corendon to add Dusseldorf connection

Corendon will begin flying, 3 times per week, between Dusseldorf and their base at Istanbul (Sabiha).

Vueling to fly between Barcelona and Venice

From 28 April 2006, Vueling will fly daily between Barcelona and Venice (Marco Polo).

MyAir to fly from Italy to Bulgaria and Romania

MyAir will launch 5 new routes on 13 April 2006. They will begin flying to Sofia in Bulgaria from Bologna (Guglielmo Marconi) and Milan (Orio al Serio), and to the Romanian airports of Timisoara, from Venice (Marco Polo) and Milan (Orio al Serio), and to Bucharest (Baneasa) from Rome (Ciampino).

flybe expand at Norwich

flybe will launch 2 new routes from their base at Norwich on 25 May 2006. They will begin flying daily between Norwich and Paris (Charles de Gaulle) and twice daily from Norwich to Manchester.

Vueling launches online check-in

It is now possible to check-in online for flights with Vueling. It is possible to print your boarding pass, and customers may board without checking in at the airport if they do not have any hold baggage.

It is possible to check-in from 2 days before your flight until 4 hours prior to departure.

This facility is currently available on flights from Barcelona, Bilbao, Madrid, Seville, Palma, Valencia and Malaga.

Monarch Scheduled to fly from Manchester to Lanzarote

Monarch Scheduled will launch a route between Manchester and Arrecife on 29 October 2006. They will fly twice per week during the winter 2006/07 season.

Blue Air to fly to Valencia from Bucharest

Blue Air will launch a route from their base at Bucharest (Baneasa) to Valencia on 14 March 2006.

FlyMe to acquire Lithuanian Airlines

FlyMe has agreed to purchase the recently privatised Lithuanian Airlines, which also recently rebranded to become FlyLAL. The deal will see them acquire 33% initially, and the whole company within 3 years.

Lithuanian Airlines currently has approximately 40% of the Lithuanian market share.

Hapag-Lloyd Express to fly from Munich to Venice

Hapag-Lloyd Express will begin flying 6 times per week between Munich and Venice (Marco Polo) from 11 May 2006.

easyJet trials online check-in

easyJet have launched a trial of online check-in for customers travelling without hold baggage. Passengers can print their boarding pass online and proceed directly to the airport waiting lounge, and can arrive any time up to 15 minutes prior to departure. Customers who have checked in online will be allocated boarding group D.

This trial does not yet extend to the entire easyJet network, but is available on the following routes:

  • All flights from Edinburgh
  • All flights from London Stansted
  • All flights from London Gatwick
  • All flights from Glasgow to London Stansted
  • All flights from Bristol to Edinburgh
  • All flights from East Midlands to Prague
  • All flights from East Midlands to Geneva (from 23 February)
  • All flights from Amsterdam to Edinburgh (from 21 February)

Vueling launches Valencia to Ibiza route

Beginning 18 April 2006, Vueling will begin flying daily between Valencia and Ibiza.

Aer Arann to fly to Angers

Aer Arann will launch flights from Manchester and Cork to Angers on 02 May 2006. They will also launch a weekly flight between Cork and Jersey on 20 May.

easyJet expands at Glasgow

easyJet have announced that they will launch 4 new routes from Glasgow (International). This follows an announcement that they would cease operating their route from Glasgow (International) to Amsterdam at the end of March.

They will launch new routes to Alicante and Malaga (beginning 07 July 2006), Berlin (Schoenefeld) (from 03 May) and Palma (from 20 May).

Further expansion is expected for easyJet at both Glasgow (International) and Edinburgh over the coming months. This is as a result of a new deal to reduce airport charges at these airports for easyJet.

Monarch Scheduled adds Tenerife connection

Monarch Scheduled will fly from London (Gatwick) to Tenerife during the winter 2006/07 season. They will begin flying on 29 October 2006.

Aer Arann to fly to Inverness

Aer Arann will begin flying between Dublin and Inverness from 10 April 2006. They will fly 4 times per week on this route.

SkyEurope to open Prague base

Sky Europe will make Prague their next hub airport. They will launch 7 routes from Prague from 10 April 2006. These will include flights to Amsterdam, Paris (Orly), Milan (Orio al Serio), Barcelona, Naples, Nice and Rome (Fiumicino).

Volareweb to fly to Lamezia-Terme

Beginning 07 April 2006, Volareweb will start flying between their base at Milan (Linate) and Lamezia-Terme. Book now at www.volareweb.com.

Jet2 to fly from Belfast to Tenerife

From October 2006, Jet2 will launch a winter route from Belfast (International) to Tenerife. They will fly once per week on this route until March 2007. Tickets are already on sale for these flights.

Hapag-Lloyd Express takes over from Germanwings at Birmingham

Hapag-Lloyd Express will begin flying between Birmingham and Cologne-Bonn from early May 2006. This is in response to the announcement that Germanwings will scrap their flights on this route at the end of March.

Ryanair adds route from Bournemouth

Ryanair will begin flying from Bournemouth to Pisa as of 08 June 2006. This will become their 4th route from Bournemouth, and it will be operated 4 times per week.

Liverpool to Galway with Aer Arann

On 10 April 2006, Aer Arann will begin flying between Liverpool and Galway. They will fly 4 times per week on this route, their 6th from Galway.

Centralwings adds many summer routes

centralwings have announced an additional 21 routes for the upcoming summer 2006 season. They intend to fly most of these routes just once or twice per week. Flights include Warsaw to Lamezia-Terme, Malaga, Corfu, Faro, Heraklion, Chania, Girona, Catania, Rhodos, Palma, Palermo, Thessaloniki and Malta. They will also add routes from Krakow to Heraklion, Malaga and Rhodos.

They will add a couple of routes from Poznan to Heraklion and Palma and from Katowice to Rhodos and Palma.

easyJet will launch a summer route from East Midlands to Ibiza on 15 July 2006. They will fly weekly on this route.

Welcome to flycheapo 2.0

We are pleased to announce the launch of flycheapo.com. This is based on our previous work at cheap0.com, but completely redesigned from the ground up, to provide more information in a more logical format.

Features include:

  • Improved user interface – it is now easier to navigate and locate the information you want. Content has been reorganised such that you now search for airports, countries or places using an alphabetical index.
  • Added airport metadata, including distance downtown from the airport and proximity to other nearby settlements.
  • Larger volume of customised content – now you can easily view news items and latest routes for specific airlines and airports.
  • Added indications of the nearest airports also offering low-cost flights, in case you can’t find the route you want, or the price you want.
  • A faster back-end – the site should now run faster than ever.
  • Custom RSS feeds for publishers. If you’d like a news feed about your favourite airline or airport for your web site – please get in touch.
  • Low-cost airline news from January 2006 (and new routes). Check out what you missed!

Vueling will begin flying daily from their Barcelona base to Mahon (Menorca) from 01 June 2006.

Air Scotland launches Spanish flights from Manchester

Air Scotland will launch 4 routes from Manchester, beginning in May 2006. They will launch weekly flights to Malaga, Palma, Alicante and Girona.

Iceland Express to launch flights to Akureyri

From 30 May 2006, Iceland Express will launch a twice-weekly flight from Copenhagen to Akureyri. This route currently appears to be for summer only.

Akureyri is the capital of northern Iceland, and according to Iceland Express the airport is within walking distance of the town centre. In their words, ‘from the airport on your own two feet, costs nothing and is good for you’.

WindJet adds international flights

WindJet will add flights from Venice (Marco Polo) to Oslo (International) (a route that Norwegian Air Shuttle will also begin flying from June 20006) from early March 2006, and from Palermo and Catania to Paris (Charles de Gaulle) from the end of March.

Intersky adds 2 new routes

Intersky will launch routes from their Friedrichshafen base to Dresden (on 26 March 2006) and Naples (on 28 April).

Norwegian to launch Munich route

From 07 May 2006, Norwegian Air Shuttle will launch a route between Oslo (International) and Munich.

flynordic route between Kiruna and Lulea

Swedish low-cost airline flynordic will launch a route from Kiruna to Lulea from 26 March 2006. It isn’t clear whether this will be a seasonal service or not.

easyJet to launch Nottingham to Ibiza summer service

easyJet will launch a route from East Midlands to Ibiza for the peak summer season. The route will begin on 16 July 2006.

Norwegian to fly to Kirkenes

Norwegian Air Shuttle will resume a summer service from Oslo (International) to Kirkenes this year. They will operate flights from 26 June until mid-August.

Wizz Air begins flights to Bourgas

Wizz Air will begin direct flights to Bourgas from London (Luton) (beginning 02 May 2006) and from Budapest (beginning 18 June 2006). The Wizz Air flight will begin just 1 day after Sky Europe begin operating on the same route.
