A baggage handling revolution?

As of Tuesday 29 June 2004, Ryanair will allow customers to take 10kg of hand luggage onto the aircraft. This is an increase of 3kg from their previously allowed 7kg.

This will be welcomed by many who prefer to travel light, and don’t want to check their luggage into the hold. In theory it is also meant to be cost saving for Ryanair, reducing the cost of baggage handling.

Air Berlin announce new UK routes

Air Berlin will begin new routes from 01 November between Germany and the UK. They will begin flying from Southampton and Manchester to Paderborn. In addition, they will also begin flying Manchester to Berlin (Tegel) and Dusseldorf.

Bexx Air replace Niederrhein with Liege

Due to complications regarding landing regulations at Niederrhein, Bexx Air have moved their flights to the Belgian airport of Liege. Their Bourgas to Niederrhein flight due to launch this summer will therefore be replaced by Bourgas to Liege, with Sofia to Niederrhein being replaced by Sofia to Liege.

New Niki route from Vienna to London

Niki have announced a new route, beginning 01 November 2004, between Vienna and London (Stansted). This will be the first low-cost route connecting Vienna to the UK.

SkyEurope announces new routes to Italy

Today, SkyEurope put their winter destinations from Warsaw on sale. These include new flights, beginning 08 October 2004, from Warsaw to Rome (Fiumicino) and Milan (Orio Al Serio).

Wizz Air announce new UK – Poland links

The new Polish-based start up, Wizz Air, have announced that they will begin flying to London (Luton) from Warsaw (twice daily) and Gdansk (daily). Flights will begin on 10 August 2004.

Jet2 to begin flying Leeds (Bradford) – Paris

From 01 September 2004, Jet2 will begin flying a new daily route from Leeds (Bradford) to Paris (Charles de Gaulles).

easyJet announces Gatwick expansion

While rumour has it BA are going to pull a number of routes from London (Gatwick), easyJet has announced that they are to expand their operation there. They are already scheduled to begin flying to Cologne-Bonn in September. In addition, they have now announced that they will fly to Budapest and increase the frequency of their Madrid flights.

In November, they will begin flying to Rome (Ciampino) and Venice, they will also increase the frequency of their Cologne-Bonn flights.

In February 2005, easyJet are planning to start flying to Murcia, and also increase the frequency of their Geneva flights.

Snowflake cancel Inverness route

The Swedish budget carrier, Snowflake, have announced that they are to suspend flights between Inverness and Stockholm (Arlanda) on 23 July, this is due to lack of demand.

Germanwings winter timetable

The German low-cost airline, Germanwings, has announced partial details for their winter timetable. They are now taking bookings from 31 October 2004 up until 26 March 2005 for a large number of destinations.

Details of the remaining scheduled flights are expected to be announced soon.

Aer Arann announce summer routes to Lorient

From 23 June 2004 until the end of October, Aer Arann will fly from Waterford and Galway to Lorient (a new airport with budget flights for cheap0!).

VLM London City – Jersey route reinstated

Following flybe‘s decision to close their route from London City to Jersey in the middle of this month, VLM have decided to reinstate their route (which had previously been dropped) on 30 June 2004.

easyJet brings forward new Dortmund route launches

easyJet have today announced that they will begin their new flights from Dortmund to Budapest, London (Luton) and Prague 2 weeks earlier than originally planned. They will now begin on 01 September 2004.

June 3rd, 2004

V-Bird announces new route to Prague

On 08 July 2004, V-Bird will begin flying from their base at Niederrhein to Prague.

New flybe route: Newcastle – Exeter

In mid-October flybe will begin flying a new daily route from Newcastle to Exeter, an exact start date is yet to be fixed.
