Facts about Air Berlin
Air Berlin is the 3rd largest low-cost airline in Europe (by volume), based in Germany. Established in 1978, as a traditional airline, in 2002 they launched their 'City Shuttle' product and entered the budget airline market. This product was rebranded 'Euro Shuttle' in 2005.
Unlike many airlines following the low-cost model, Air Berlin serves complementary food, drinks and newspapers on all flights. They also operate a frequent-flyer scheme, 'Top Bonus'.
In March 2007, Air Berlin completed an acquisition of competitor dba. In January 2004, Air Berlin formed alliance with the Austrian airline, Niki. They cooperate on sales and marketing. Air Berlin is also a major shareholder in Niki.
